Great people have constantly emerged within the ranks of these institutions, people who had shaped the life of the city through their works. Throughout the last century, they influenced the development of the city in the fields of education, culture, sports and citizen safety.

EDUCATION

Babeș-Bolyai University
Babeș-Bolyai University represents, in the national and international academic environment, an excellence pole in research and teaching. UBB is the greatest University of Romania, constantly being ranked amongst the best universities in Central and Eastern Europe. The changes and transformations it has suffered throughout this century have partially changed its format, name and structure, but never managed to affect its vocation.

”Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy
The Academy has been inaugurated in 1919, as a state institution, in the context of an ample process of modernization of the romanian educational system, determined by the dynamic environment of postbelic Romania. Since its inception, the Academy has assumed the role of educating musicians and to contribute, alongside the other cultural institutions, to the configuration of a high quality cultural environment.

Emil Racoviță National College
an institution that celebrates 100 years of functioning. The college is renowned in the Romanian educational environment. Showcasing high moral standards, ERNC has contributed to the development of an impressive number of personalities. The changes of the contemporary society are considered by its students and teachers a challenge and an opportunity to progress and to continue the tradition of the college.

Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy
The mission of the university is to educate its students to treat their patients, their country and the human kind. ”The vital functions of the university: the scientific creation, instruction, education, university life and its extensions” as established by the great Iuliu Hațieganu still echo as the principles which UMF applies. The University of Medicine and Pharmacy offers a splendid halo of medical spirit to the city of Cluj-Napoca

The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary medicine
an academic institution of advanced research, which celebrates 150 since its inception and 100 years of romanian teaching. The university promotes excellence in the learning process and research, while offering a large variety of specializations in agriculture, horticulture, zootechnology, veterinary medicine and food engineering.

„George Barițiu” National College
opened in 1919, it is the first Romanian high school in Cluj. Although it has changed names and format several times throughout the last century, nowadays the college happens to bee in a continuum crescendo. The college is an educational edifice of the academic environment from Cluj – an integrated part of the community

George Coșbuc National College
In the academic environment of Cluj-Napoca, schools tend to develop an identity, revolving around shared assumptions of the entire community. GCNC has developed as a modern school, adapted to actual challenges, and has become the ”German school” of the county.

CULTURE

Cluj-Napoca National Theatre
The first season of the Theatre started on the 1st of December 1919. From then on, throughout the century, the cultural institution has constantly distinguished itself both through the novel shows and the remarkable actors that it has given to the world. During its development, the range of shows the Theatre offers has widened and modernized, making it one of the most important profile institutions in Romania.

”Sextil Pușcariu” Linguistics and Literary History Institute
This core of fundamental research has fixed the following goals: awakening the interest of the community for research and cultivation of the Romanian language, the preparation of Romanian philologists, monographic publications, special dictionaries, glossaries and bibliographies. The works of the Institute are an important part of Romanian linguistics.

Cluj-Napoca National Opera
The National Opera from Cluj-Napoca is the first lyric institution of the country, inaugurated in September 1919. Since its inception until now, over 200 operas from the universal repertoire have been presented on stage, showing the openness of the artists to various styles. The grandeur of the Cluj opera still pulsates lively, after a century since its inauguration!

SPORT

Universitatea Cluj – created in 1919, it is not only a football team but rather a lifestyle, a legend, born in the Heart of Transylvania from the most vivid thing that characterizes Cluj-Napoca: the student life.
U-BT Cluj-Napoca – basketball has gradually become a traditional team sport in our city. Cluj boasts huge names of coaches and players, who honored the club symbols and the city – while representing the country with pride.
Universitatea Sports Club – Since its inauguration, 100 years ago, ”U” Cluj has been not only a sports club but an idea, which several generations of people adhered and continue to adhere to. The club proudly represents Cluj-Napoca with over 600 sportives and coaches, who practice 21 different sports.

”Dr. Constantin Papilian” Emergency Military Hospital
Nowadays, the military hospital of Cluj-Napoca bears the name of the illustrious general medic Constantin Papilian. It offers, besides its specific mission and high quality medical services, educational activities for health, being a constant partner of the community in case of emergency.

Cluj Bar
In the traditional spirit, the Bar of attorneys of Cluj – second largest in Romania – celebrates its centenary. Local attorneys have always been involved in the life of the community, holding several principles to high regard and promoting joustness.

Cluj County Gendarms Inspectorate
The County Gendarmerie celebrates this year 100 years since it assures the safety of citizens in Cluj-Napoca and its surroundings. The institution has suffered several transformations throughout the last century, but it has always fought for the citizens.
